About time units
Seconds, minutes, hours, days and weeks convert exactly. Months and years do not, and no converter can make them.
A month is 28, 29, 30 or 31 days depending on which one. A year is 365 days except when it is 366. Any figure in months or years is therefore an average: this converter uses 30.44 days for a month and 365.2425 days for a year, the values that keep the Gregorian calendar aligned.
For anything that must be precise — a contract, a due date, an anniversary — count on a calendar rather than multiplying.
There is now a second field under the result, and it is the one that turns a conversion into a plan. **6,000 seconds is 100 minutes — but spread over ten videos it is ten minutes each**, which is usually the number you were actually after. Frequently asked questions
Why is a year 365.2425 days and not 365?
Because the Earth takes slightly less than 365¼ days to orbit the Sun. Leap years add the quarter back, and the century rule (2000 was a leap year, 1900 was not) trims the small excess. The average lands on 365.2425.
How many days are in 6 months?
About 183 using the average, but the real answer is between 181 and 184 depending on where you start. From 1 January it is 181 days; from 1 July it is 184.
Which conversions here are exact?
Everything up to weeks: 60 seconds a minute, 60 minutes an hour, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with no exceptions. Only months and years are averaged.
Does a leap second change these numbers?
Not in any way you would notice. Leap seconds are added occasionally to keep clocks aligned with the Earth's rotation, but they amount to under a minute in total since 1972.
