How many floor protection rolls do you need?
How many non-woven floor protection rolls from m², roll size and overlap.
Quick answer
Renovation damage to existing floors is one of the cheapest problems to prevent and the most expensive to fix — non-woven protection rolls are sold by covered area, not by “one roll per room”. Standard trade rolls are often 1 m × 25 m (25 m²) but check the label before you divide.

Rolls needed
2
Non-woven protection rolls are sold by surface covered. Add overlap where sheets meet so there are no gaps when you walk on them.
How it works
Overlap at seams matters: 10% extra area accounts for joints and trimming around fixtures. For long corridors, compare roll width (1 m vs 2.7 m) — fewer seams mean less tape and less trip hazard. See floor protection rolls and adhesive film for finished surfaces that cannot take tape residue.
Frequently asked questions
How many rolls for 60 m² of floor?+
60 m² + 10% overlap = 66 m². At 1×25 m rolls: 66 ÷ 25 = 2.64 → 3 rolls. Wider rolls reduce count — plug your actual roll dimensions in advanced.
Tape down or loose lay protection?+
Tape seams on hard flooring you are protecting; loose lay shifts on tile. Never use duct tape on finished parquet — painter’s tape at edges only. Overlap calculator assumes taped seams, not perfect alignment by luck.
Is cardboard enough instead of rolls?+
Free cardboard works for short heavy-trade jobs but slips, tears and leaves gaps. Non-woven rolls breathe (less condensation on timber) and lay flat — worth the cost on multi-week renovations.
Protect stairs the same way?+
Measure each tread + riser as flat strips — effective area is higher than footprint m². Add extra overlap on nosings where workers kick. One wide roll cut to tread width often wastes less than narrow strips.
