How it works
WebP is typically 25–35% smaller than PNG at the same visible quality, and it keeps transparency. Every browser in use has supported it since Safari 14 in 2020, so the old compatibility argument no longer applies.
Lossless WebP is the safe swap for logos and screenshots. Lossy WebP is smaller again but discards subtle gradients — fine for photographs, visible on flat brand colours.

All current browsers support WebP. Some desktop editors or old CMS plugins may not — keep a JPEG copy if unsure.
Why is my WebP still large?+
Dimensions matter more than format. Resize to the display size you need, then convert — a 4000 px WebP is still heavy.
