How it works

Instagram feed posts use 1080×1080 px (1:1). Portrait feed posts are 1080×1350 (4:5). Stories and Reels covers are 1080×1920 (9:16).

YouTube thumbnails display at 1280×720 (16:9). Facebook link previews work well at 1200×630 px.

After resizing, export as JPEG for maximum compatibility or WebP for a lighter file on your own site.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Instagram crop my image?+

If your photo ratio does not match the post type, the app crops it. Resize to the exact preset (square, 4:5 or 9:16) before uploading.

Is 1080 px still enough in 2026?+

Yes for Instagram and TikTok feed delivery — platforms still optimize around ~1080 px wide. Higher resolution rarely improves mobile display.

Should I use crop or only resize?+

Use crop when you need a different aspect ratio (e.g. landscape photo → square post). Resize only when the ratio already fits.
